PMGSC: Lost LA Episode

Project Overview

Project Name: PMGSC’s Lost LA Episode
Project Support Year: 2021 - 2022

Involvement

The Frieda Berlinski Foundation is extremely honored to provide funding for Public Media Group of Southern California’s Lost LA series for the episode “LA’s German / Jewish Exiles and Hollywood.” PMGSC's KCET channel was Frieda’s local PBS station and given Frieda’s history and life, this episode’s story is something Frieda would have wanted to be told via public broadcasting.

Project Summary

"Lost LA" explores the past through the region's archives, where photos, documents, and other rare artifacts unlock the untold history behind the fantasy of Southern California. Hosted by writer and public historian Nathan Masters of the USC Libraries, each episode of "Lost LA" brings the primary sources of history to the screen in surprising new ways. Much of L.A.'s past is lost to history, but through the region's archives, we can uncover the inspiring dreams and bitter realities that built the modern-day metropolis.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming of the “LA’s German / Jewish Exiles and Hollywood” episode was delayed but has a planned premiere for early spring of 2022.
